Rhinoplasty in Thailand

Every year, millions of medical tourists traveled to Thailand seeking rhinoplasty surgery due to accessibility, reliability, and comparatively lower prices. According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), Thailand was ranked No.21 of the world’s top countries for cosmetic procedures with rhinoplasty being the third most popular cosmetic surgical procedures. Thus, it is no surprise that nose augmentation is one of the most frequently performed operations at Naravee Clinic.

The purpose of Rhinoplasty is ultimately to improve the aesthetics of the nose while maintaining, if not also improving, its functionality. Although rhinoplasty is a frequently chosen cosmetic procedure, patients nonetheless need to understand the variation of each type of the nose surgeries in order to make a well-informed decision.

Different Types of Rhinoplasty

There are currently three different types of nose augmentation surgeries offered at Naravee Clinic which are Silicone Implant, Gore-tex Implant, and Rhinoplasty with Ear Cartilage.

Silicone implant is the most widely used method for nasal bridge augmentation. The silicone is made of synthetic material which can be encapsulated to become part of the body. The encapsulation is the body’s natural reaction to form a skin-tissue capsule and make a loose attachment around a foreign object. Naravee Clinic uses high quality silicone implants from the United States, South Korea, and Japan. However, silicone implant has received considerable amount of criticisms for its rejection rate and unnatural appearance after the surgery. The advantage of using silicone implant is its easiness for a revision as it can be taken out entirely.

Gore-Tex or PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is another widely-used material in rhinoplasty. The Gore-Tex has a high tissue compatibility and low complication rate. It also provides a more natural appearance as it ingrates itself with the skin tissue and become part of the nasal structure. It is, thus, safer and suitable for patients who want to increase the size of their nasal bridge compared to silicone implant.

Despite their quality and compatibility with the body, Silicone and Gore-Tex are nonetheless foreign objects. A Rhinoplasty with Ear Cartilage uses your own body’s natural resources to improve the angle of your nose bridge. Ear cartilage method is ideal for those who have thin layer of skin at the tip of the nose. The natural material can also work better with the flexibility of the face. For this process, the surgeon will take a tiny sliver of cartilage from the back of one or both ears and use them on reconstructing the nose shape.

Possible Complications from Rhinoplasty

Every type of surgery carries a certain amount of risks and complications, and rhinoplasty is no exception. Excessive bleeding is one of the frequent complications, particularly the first couple of days following the surgery. An easy step to deal with this include keeping your head elevated to try and keep excess blood from reaching your nose. Some medication can also be prescribed to help with the symptom. In severe cases, however, you may need to consult your doctor and go to the hospital.

Swelling is also common for most surgeries. Nonetheless, the swelling after a rhinoplasty can be dangerous as it may cause difficulty in breathing. The most common way to deal with swelling is to place ice on the nose area. The coldness can help reduce the swelling and make it easier to breathe. The swelling may as well last several weeks following the surgery. Contact your doctor or visit a hospital of you are having severe case of excessive swelling.

Although patients are allowed to head home immediately after the surgery, it is advisable to take at least one week for recovery. Patients are also discouraged from intense outdoor activities and take care of the hygiene of their nose area.

Rhinoplasty Surgeons

A rhinoplasty deals with the aesthetic aspect rather than the functionality. As a result, surgical skill plays an important role in the quality of the outcome. Past surveys have shown that many people prioritize convenience over the skills of the surgeon which eventually lead to unsatisfied outcome and even possibly increase the risk of complication.

Naravee Clinic is one of the finest plastic and cosmetic surgery centers in Thailand where you can acquire reputable specialist surgeons with years of experience at much lower price compared to its counterparts in Europe or United States. Prior to any surgery, we offer consultations which are informative and in-depth to give you a clear idea about what to expect.

It is also possible for patients to be unsatisfied with the end result and may want to seek revision. In that case, our surgeons can also provide additional information about the cost, the process, and the recovery time needed for the revision.
