Is Liposuction A Good Idea For Obese Individuals?

Update 16/09/2018

As a liposuction procedure involves the breaking up and removal of fat from various parts of the body, people who are obese may believe it is an ‘easy’ way for them to become thinner. In reality, liposuction is not a good idea for anyone who is extremely overweight.

Why Is It Ineffective If I Weigh Too Much?
Reputable surgeons such as the ones working at the Naravee Aesthetic Clinic in Thailand only recommend liposuction to people struggling to remove localized deposits of fat. The ideal candidate usually wants to lose no more than 10 pounds and is in a reasonably healthy condition.

If you are obese, it is almost certain that your eating habits and general lifestyle are the main factors. Of course, there can be some medical conditions that lead to obesity but usually, people who are extremely overweight regain almost all the weight lost during a liposuction procedure because they quickly slip back into old and unhealthy habits.

There is a greater risk of complications if liposuction is performed on an obese individual because it is not safe to remove large amounts of fat in this manner. Surgeons will typically refuse to remove more than 8-10 pounds of fat in a single day so if you are 50-100 pounds overweight, liposuction is not the answer.

Of course, if you are a little overweight and have been at a stable weight for a few years but still have problem areas of fatty deposits, you may well be a good candidate. If you are obese but the goal of the surgery is to improve the appearance of a troublesome contour area, you may find liposuction to be beneficial. The bottom line is that liposuction should be used as a means of improving the look of certain areas in the body; it is not a suitable method of weight loss.
